Caterpillar Cake & the Buggy Birthday Party

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Our first ever “friends” birthday party was buggy in more than one way. Some things certainly didn’t turn out as planned, but I’ll share my experience anyway. And the caterpillar cake was adorable. (more…)

Misheard Words

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

As the kids vocabulary grows, so does their incidence of misheard words.

A few recent ones:

Exclamation point = “Eskimo nation Point”
Little Caesars = “Little Tweezers”
Refusing to eat Dinner (a violation at our house) = “Confusing to Eat Dinner” (Ethan)
Strife = “Stripes” (Also Ethan, he learned the word Strife from the Book of Mormon, but misused it in context :-) )
Carousel = “Uniform” ?? That’s a creative one from Mary of course. She wanted a uniform on her birthday cake, and as you might imagine, it took us a while to figure that one out.

Fluff Festival Update

Alright, alright, we’re a week and a half into this, and the neighbors are right. Not six inches of snow yet, but this stuff is -everywhere-. Still, I do think if I give the trees some much needed pruning, it won’t be bad next year. And it’s still fun to look at – from my desk inside my house :)

A site that well suits its name

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

Jason, a great Techserv friend of mine whom I have not seen for years on end, happened upon my site last night and dropped a note with a link to his.

I have such great memories of Techserv, not so much for the work we did (although we did have some great customers) but for the people around me. DamnInteresting.com was created by another friend, Jason’s brother Alan, who also worked there. Jason apologized for the coarse language in the title, but argued that it’s hardly a swear word in the modern vernacular.  And he said it just like that, because that’s Jason.  I sure miss working with such characters.  Thank goodness for Facebook :-)

My personal favorite article?  Color Photos from the World War 1 Era. They have a color photo of a magistrate that looks like it could have been taken this year!
