Idea Blog

Coming up with ideas is the easy part for me, making them work is another thing. So when I do come up with something that works well, I’ll post it here. I’m also including a few experiences with some of my not-so-stellar plans.

To the Moon and Back

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Twitter is just full of great ideas:

RT @Crazycanuckblog: RT @hbaskas The 40th anniv. of 1st moon landing is July 20th. Know anyone planning a special celebration? Looking for ideas. #moonlanding

A mid-summer moon landing party sounds like a blast. I’m thinking of baking a crater cake with them for family night and having astronaut icecream along side it. Too bad the moon will be little more than a sliver that night! We’ll still have fun though I’m sure :)

My little picky eater

My little picky eater

Since I’ve started going back to school, my grocery budget has shrunk significantly. The result? I can’t afford to feed picky eaters. We need the most bang for our buck, which means we eat lots of vegetables, cereals, and leftovers. Luckily the kids are adjusting. Here are a few tips that seem to have helped over the years. I’ll be kicking them into full gear now :-) (more…)

We’ve decided we’re doing a Mario Kart party this year for both kids as a combined birthday party. Here is the entire oh-so-simple party plan, thanks to some awesome ideas in the Mario Birthday Party Brainstorm and some brainstorming here as well. I love planning parties that don’t really need a party planner to pull off :-) Like this: (more…)

Two Too-Easy Microwave Dishes

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

easier-than-apple-pie1 I’m going back to college! Granted, I’m not staying in the dorms with my two kids, but I figured I’d celebrate the occasion by posting two student-friendly recipes. For those of you who believe microwaves serve little other purpose than to make popcorn and heat TV dinners, here are two easy tricks we’ve discovered quite by accident.

Before you scoff at microwave food, consider that these sneaky recipes take less time than running out for fast food that was probably microwaved anyway. And they cost less and taste better to boot. So whether you’re a student or not, when you’re in a rush, hungry, and looking to save a little time and money, give these a go and let me know what you think :-) (more…)

Neighborhood Parades

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Laura Moncur, one of the few Utah Girl Geeks I know, blogged today about doing a parade down the street with her sister in 1980. The photo she included is absolutely adorable, and oh the memories that rushed back!

My sister and I had a parade just like that once! Only she’d chopped up my long, luxurious hair in zig zags so I’d look like a clown. When we got back, my mom was so sad/mad, she gave me the infamous buzz cut that made everyone in first grade think I was a boy. I just wish she wouldn’t have been so upset she forgot to take photos, because despite the trauma, I have great memories.

So I think I’d like to set one up for my kids too. Not the city children’s parade. THAT is a circus, and it’s far too hot out by the time that rolls around anyway. Just a round-the-block bike parade with streamers and wagons and the whole nine yards. I can hardly wait! And I -will- take photos, no matter what :)
